Police: Tappan Zee Jumper Identified as Mamaroneck Man Struggling with Divorce

Jeffrey Waldhuter jumped from the bridge at approximately 4:30 a.m. Friday morning

A at around 4:30 a.m. this morning was a 58-year-old Mamaroneck man struggling with a divorce, police said.

Jeffrey Waldhuter—whose body was located in Irvington at around 7 a.m. with help from Rockland and Westchester search and rescue teams—worked as an executive director of business with Verizon. Waldhuter was recently divorced and has no children, according to state police investigators and other news outlets.

Police were alerted to the incident when a motorist reported seeing an abandoned Mini Cooper on the bridge's midsection. The process of identifying Waldhuter was expedited by a contact information found in his car.

According to Waldhuter's profile on the business networking site LinkedIn, he had a career in telecommunications. He worked as a director with Verizon and Bell Atlantic and attended Columbia University, according to the site.
