Police: Stolen Car in Nyack Leads to Chase

Orangetown Police arrest man after pursuit on 9W

A Nyack man accused of stealing a car led on a chase through the village Monday morning, authorities said.

At about 9:20 a.m., police received a call about the theft of an Acura SUV from on Catherine Street, according to Det. Lt. James Brown.

Soon after, police had a lead. "The car was seen southbound on Rt. 9W by a South Nyack Police officer," Brown said. "The Acura struck a New York State Park truck as it fled south."

The alleged car thief was stopped about twelve minutes after the theft near l; and aided Orangetown Police.

Steven Butterfield, a 31-year-old Nyacker, was arrested after the chase. Butterfield has been charged with grand larceny, DWI and other vehicle and traffic law violations.
