Police Say Man Hugged Friend, Stole Phone

A Nyack woman told Clarkstown police at 12:40 p.m. March 22 that a friend of hers had taken her cell phone out of her rear pants pocket while they had given each other a hug at the intersection of Waldron and Pine Avenues in Central Nyack. 

Police and the victim canvassed the area for the suspect, who had run away.   

He was apprehended quickly. Police searched him and found the victim's cell phone.

Michael Beauvais, 27, of Lake St. in Spring Valley, was charged with Grand Larceny 4th, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. He was arraigned in Clarkstown Town Court and was held on $1,000 bail with a return court date of 
March 26, 2014.
