Police: Park Bench Defecator Returns

Tarrytown Police have received more complaints of human feces found on Pierson Park benches.

After a quiet spell, police are again receiving reports of human feces found on Tarrytown's RiverWalk park benches.

Between late November and early December, police confirmed finding no less than seven human deposits on park benches and elsewhere along the periphery of Pierson Park. The problem seemed to have stopped until now.

On Jan. 10 at 10:05 a.m., an anonymous caller reported than an unknown person had defecated on a park bench along the RiverWalk, near the new picnic area off West Main Street. Officer filed a case for disorderly conduct and the park bench had already been power-washed by the Recreation Department upon his arrival.

Again on Jan. 13 at 10:30 a.m., someone reported that an unknown person had defecated on the park benches in Pierson Park by the fishing pier. An officer confirmed this and the Recreation Supervisor was notified.

Police Lieutenant William Herguth reported investigation has been challenging on this. Police patrol the park and will issue violations to those there after dark but they "have not encountered this person."

Police have "no fresh leads," Herguth said.

On the other side of the village, a report of another unwelcome deposit on someone's patio:

On Jan. 13 at 12:01 p.m., a caller reported than an unknown person had been leaving used condoms on his patio on 177 White Plains Road. Officers said this was the second time this had happened; caller would follow up with the building superintendent.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
