Pile Up on Thruway in Nyack Leaves at Least Six Cars Damaged

Only minor injuries; traffic flowing smoothly again

An accident on the Nyack portion of the Thruway at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday left at least six cars with major damage and several drivers shaken.

The pile up occurred just over the Tappan Zee Bridge in the west-bound lanes. Police are still investigating what caused the accident; those involved suffered only minor injures.

Authorities closed down the west-bound lanes while clearing the site, and traffic on the bridge came to a standstill for about half-an-hour.

State Police, EMT units and Thruway Authority workers transported the damaged cars and affected drivers to the wide shoulder adjacent to the exit 10 ramp in Nyack.
