The Piermont Police recommended evacuations from some areas and announced the closure of others in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy.

The Piermont Police recommended evacuating homes in the following areas due to the potential for flooding once Hurricane Sandy arrives in the area:

  • Paradise Ave. (lower)
  • Ladik Street
  • Liberty Street
  • Ohio Street
  • Michigan Street

The Piermont Fire Department located at 554 Piermont Avenue will be used as Piermont's evacuation center.

Piermont Police also announced the closing of the following locations during the storm:

  • Northshore walkway
  • Piermont Pier
  • River Lot (across from Piermont Fire Department)
  • Parking Lot D (off Gair Street)

Overnight parking restrictions will be suspended starting Sunday night until the storm ends. Piermont residents are advised to move vehicles to higher ground where possible. Piermont Landing will allow for the use of its public lots for overnight parking, including the lots around Peirmont Bicycle Connection and The View.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
