Piermont Police Look to Combat Drivers Not Wearing Seatbelts

Crackdown is part of a state campaign

Piermonters: if you're not doing so already, buckle up.

The will be participating in the Buckle Up New York enforcement wave, a crackdown slated to run from May 23 to June 5. (Read more about the initiative .) Officers will conduct check points and roving patrols throughout Piermont.

The seatbelt compliance rate is at an all-time high of 90 percent, according to Michael O'Shea, Piermont's chief of police. And because a study of crash records shows that the seatbelt use rate is lower at night, night-time enforcement will be increased.
