A canoer just off Piermont Pier who took on water was rescued by the at about 1 p.m. Monday.
Someone on the pier spotted a man in a small, blue plastic canoe hanging on to the side of his vessel, which had taken on water. They alerted the local fire department, which was quick to dispatch a rescue boat.
"Our medics and ambulance crew are checking [the canoer] out, but he appears to be fine," said Piermont fire chief Kevin Fagan.
The man had his life preserver on and was bobbing in the water, Fagan added.
The was initially called in for assistance, but Fagan cancelled the help en-route.
