The Village of Piermont Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of John Salter as a part-time officer with the Piermont Police during Tuesday's meeting.
"He began as part-time in Haverstraw, then full time," Piermont Police Chief Michael O'Shea said. "He ended as a detective sergeant. He has a wealth of experience and he is a good guy. That's what we need.
"It helps us save money. We bring in officers after they are trained."
He was sworn in at the meeting by Piermont Village Clerk Stephanie Tassello.
