[PHOTOS] New City Firefighters Celebrate New Fire Truck

"Wetdown" party brings out firefighters from throughout the area.

The volunteer members of the New City Fire Department hosted fellow volunteers from throughout Rockland County Saturday night for a party to dedicate New City's new fire truck.

The new tanker truck arrived earlier this year to replace an aging fire tanker. Tonight's celebration is a "wetdown," a firehouse tradition in which a new piece of firefighting equipment gets sprayed down in a kind of baptism ceremony.

The celebration included food and music at New City's firehouse on Maple Avenue, right across the street from Clarkstown Town Hall.

The New City Fire Department held a 'Wetdown" Party on Saturday night to welcome a new Fire Engine. It's a Fire Service tradition to have other Fire Departments hose down new trucks to bring good luck and safety to the Firefighters that will use the new rig. A big "Thank You" to all New City residence, Local Merchants, and Brother and Sister firefighters for your tremendous support! P.S. October is Fire Prevention Month-Be Fire Safe!!
