Orangetown Police Officer Injured in Nyack Incident Back to Work

An Orangetown police officer injured in a violent clash with two Haverstraw teenagers in Nyack has returned to work, according to Orangetown Police.

The town officer was hurt on April 16 after investigating a fare dispute between the two teens and a cab driver in downtown Nyack. In the incident, one of the teens is accused of kicking a door to the cab, damaging it and then running off.

Orangetown police said that as the town officer ran after the teen and stopped him, the teen began fighting with the officer and the second teen in the incident joined in attacking the officer. A Nyack business owner who was driving on Main Street at the time spotted the clash, stopped his car and pulled one of the teens off the town officer.

Police said the officer was then able to arrest both teens. The officer was taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment of neck, hand, knee and back injuries.

The teens were ordered held in the county jail in New City on charges including attempted robbery and resisting arrest.
