Orangeburg Man Charged with DWI After 2-Car Accident

Police: Vehicles heavily damaged, but no one injured.

A 54-year-old Orangeburg man was charged with drunken driving after he was involved in a head-on crash with another car in Orangeburg, according to Orangetown Police.

Jesus M. Diaz of 22 Dutchess Drive, police said, was driving a 2008 Land Rover south on Lester Drive near Fern Oval West at about 8:33 a.m. on Saturday when he struck a 2007 Toyota. Police said no one was injured in the crash which heavily damaged both vehicles.

Police said that as town officers investigated the crash Diaz appeared intoxicated and he failed field sobriety tests. He was taken to Orangetown Police Headquarters in Orangeburg, where police said he refused to take a chemical breath test for alcohol.

Diaz was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and several traffic violations. He was released to a family member pending a hearing in Orangetown Town Court on Feb. 20.
