Obit: Robert Schettig, 58, Nyack Firefighter

He was a retired Rockland County Sheriff's communications officer

Robert J. Schettig, a retired Rockland County Sheriff Deputy Communications Officer (call sign "K-double E - 398…4-5") and longtime Nyack volunteer firefighter, died unexpectedly, Friday, Dec.  2, 2011 at home. He was 58.

The son of the late Eileen and Harold Schettig, he was born on Aug. 19, 1953 in Nyack, NY. Mr. Schettig was a Lifetime Member, Past-Ex Captain and Engineer of Mazeppa Engine Company No. 2 of the Nyack Fire Department.

His legacy of Firematic Service lives on through his sons, who are also volunteer firefighters. Survivors include his sons, Lyle Schettig and Troy Schettig of Harriman, NY; his brother Kenneth Schettig of Nyack; and his sister Patricia Schettig Morrison, her husband Scott and their daughters Teal and Malorie of Belleville, WV, as well as many loving friends.

Visitation for friends will be Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at Hannemann Funeral Home, 88 South Broadway, Nyack, 845-358-0573, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., with a Firematic Service beginning at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family  asks that donations be made to The Rockland County Volunteer Fireman's Association, PO Box 16, Garnerville, NY 10923, in Memory of Bob Schettig.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
