The process leads to naming of the chief, deputy chief and battalion chief. The selection will mark the end of the term of current Chief James Petriello.

The voting for chief is an internal process involving members of the fire department. The selection of chief is separate from the public vote for commissioners of the Nyack Joint Fire District, who oversee the financial operation of the fire department.
