Nanuet Man Hit with Drug Charges in Nyack

Police: 24-year-old found passed out behind car steering wheel.

A 24-year-old Nanuet man was arrested on drug charges late Monday after he was found passed out behind the wheel of a car in Nyack, according to Orangetown Police.

John M. Spanakos of 14 Bradl Lane was found by town officers at about 10:46 p.m. at the Nyack Walgreens store, 16 Route 59, where someone had reported seeing a man apparently passed out in the car. Police said that when town officers looked inside the car, they could see a plastic bag containing pills and four envelopes containing a white substance.

Police said the plastic bag contained 14 Xanax pills and the white substance tested positive for heroin. Spanakos was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Spanakos was later released to a family member on $250 bail pending a Nyack Village Court hearing on Feb. 12.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
