Morning Scare at Condo: Frayed Wire Creates Smoke, But No Fire

No one injured in incident at Forest Ridge complex in Central Nyack.

Residents of a Central Nyack townhouse got a scare this morning when they discovered smoke in their home at the Forest Ridge condo complex.

However, volunteer firefighters said the smoke was created by a frayed wire on a air-handling unit in the townhouse and there was no fire or damage to the townhouse at 41 Forest Ridge Road.

No one was injured at the complex, which is located within the Central Nyack Fire Department's territory.

Clarkstown police and volunteer firefighters from Central Nyack, Nyack, West Nyack and Valley Cottage when to the townhouse complex at about 8:34 a.m. when they were alerted to smoke in the home. Firefighters said that when they arrrived the residents of the unit had safely evacuated the home.

While checking the home, firefighters found that the smoke was created by the air-handling unit for the home.

As firefighters wrapped up their operations at about 9 a.m., Nyack firefighters were called to another possible emergency, this time at Nyack Middle School. But the call was a false alarm.
