[UPDATE] Brooklyn Man Killed in Fall From Cliff Along Palisades Interstate Parkway in N.J.

Death unrelated to Ironman event; incident not considered suspicious.

UPDATED (7 p.m.) - The victim in Saturday night's cliff fall has been positively identified as Artem Adzhyev, 26, of Brooklyn.  Police said he was visiting the Rockefeller Lookout with friends at the time of the incident and is it was not related to the Ironman event. The investigation has not developed new information and it remains a non-suspicious death, police said.

Police have not yet released the identity of a man who plunged to his death Saturday night from the Rockefeller Lookout along the Palisades Interstate Parkway in New Jersey.

Palisades Interstate Park Police received a report at about 8:57 p.m. that a person had fallen off the cliffs overlooking the Hudson River. Getting to the Rockefeller Lookout within minutes, witnesses told police about a man who was seen at the cliff's edge — beyond a safety barrier near the middle of the lookout area on the northbound side of the parkway nort of the Exit 1 interchange.

A search and rescue operation was immediately launched with help from the Englewood Cliffs Fire Department, East Bergen Rappel Team, and New York City Police Department Aviation Unit.  Rescue crews were able to locate the victim directly below where he was reported to have fallen.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Police early this morning said the victim’s identity is still being confirmed and family membrers are being notified about the death.

Although the case is still being investigated, police said it is not believed that anything suspicious is involved.
