A New Jersey man is facing charges after police said he broke into a vending machine at the on Baltimore Pike and took cash.
Patrolman Stephen Hurwitz saw what appeared to be a suspicious vehicle with people in it Saturday parked next to a vending machine in the lot of the Jiffy Lube on the 200 block on Baltimore Pike, according to a police report.
A woman in the vehicle ran away when the officer approached and the man came toward the officer holding money and a crowbar, the report said.
Hurwitz ordered 37-year-old Brian Toth, of Deptford, NJ, to the ground and police reported that he was taken into custody.
Police found that Toth had broken into the vending machine, according to the report, and stolen cash, estimated to be in excess of $190.
Police searched Toth and, according to the report, found drug paraphernalia.
Toth was taken to the and charged with Theft By Unlawful Taking, Receiving Stolen Property, Possession Of Instruments Of Crime, Criminal Mischief, and Violations Of The Health & Safety Act.
Police would not release information on Toth’s criminal record, but a quick Google search found a June 2009 report from South Jersey Local News of a 33-year-old Brian Toth, of Deptford, facing charges in connection with a vending machine break in at the Funplex in Mount Laurel, NJ. A September 2010 report from Press of Atlantic City reports an arrest of of a 35-year-old Brian Toth, of Deptford, on charges of criminal attempt, criminal mischief, and possession of burglar tools.
Springfield Police would not confirm if this was the same Brian Toth.
