Man Asleep At The Wheel Of Car With Engine Running Charged With Felony DWI

Police: Orange County man arrested in Congers thought he was in Pearl River.

An Orange County man arrested on felony drunken driving charges in Congers was so intoxicated that he thought he was at a friend's home in Pearl River, according to Clarkstown police.

Police said that Robert Coyle, 25, of Goshen, told town officers that he didn't even know where Congers was located, even though he was found asleep behind the wheel of a 2002 Honda parked with the engine running at Stratford Arms, 120 Route 303, in Congers at 8:10 a.m. Saturday.

Coyle, according to police, had to be awakened by town officers, who then found Coyle was higly intoxicated. Coyle was arrested and taken to Clarkstown police headquarters in New City, where police said he failed a chemical breath test for alcohol with nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system with a .14 percent blood alcohol content reading.

While being processed, police found that Coyle had been previously charged with drunken driving, and the new driving while intoxicated charge was filed against him as a felony. Coyle was arraigned in Clarkstown Town Court in New City and released pending a hearing on Wednesday.
