Law & Order: DWI Charged, Conviction In Workplace Theft

Another teen charged in continuing probe of thefts, vandalism.

DWI Charged

Deborah Hewitt, 48, of Garnerville, was accused of drunken driving and criminal possession of a controlled substance after she was stopped for driving erratically, according to the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department.

Hewitt was stopped on Route 202 in Pomona at about 4 a.m. Saturday. Police said that when Hewitt was questioned she appeared intoxicated and was found to have a quantity of controlled substance pills in her possession.

Hewitt was taken to the Sheriff’s Headquarters in New City and later arraigned in Haverstraw Town Court. She was also charged with refusing to take a chemical breath test for alcohol.

She was released pending a Nov. 7 hearing.

NJ Man Convicted In Workplace Theft Of iPad

Bhavesh Desai, 40, of 32 Phillips Road, Edison, NJ, has been convicted by a Rockland County jury of petty larceny and possession of stolen property for the theft of an iPad from a Chestnut Ridge company where he was working as a contractor.

Desai was accused of taking the tablet computer, belonging to a physician who was attending a meeting at the LeCroy Corportation, on Oct. 27, 2010. District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said an investigation into the theft reviewed key-card records and security video.

Zugibe said Desai could be seen on video leaving the building while concealing a rectangular item under his sweater. A search of Desai’s car by Ramapo police uncovered the iPad, which was hidden beneath a floor mat.

Desai remains free on bail pending sentencing on Jan. 18, 2012.

Another Teen Charged In Theft, Vandalism Spree

Another 17-year-old has been arrested in the ongoing investigation of a series of burglaries, thefts and vandalism, according to Stony Point police.

The latest arrest on a charge of criminal mischief involved thefts and vandalism
at Jaguar Industries in the Town of Stony Point. The teen was released pending a Dec. 1 hearing in Stony Point Town Court. 

Several teens have been arrested in the investigation, which included the burglary of one residence that was hit twice. Police said the investigation is continuing and additional arrests are anticipated.
