Kayak Overturns, Pearl River Man Dumped in Hudson River

He's able to swim to dock in Grand View, gets ride back to Piermont on F.D. boat.

A Pearl River man kayaking on the Hudson River Tuesday evening was stranded for a short time after his boat overturned off Grand View, according to police.

Police said the 46-year-old's boat overturned about 6 p.m. and several calls were received from local residents reporting a man in distress off 186 River Road, according to South Nyack-Grand View Police Chief Robert VanCura.

The man, who was not injured, was able to swim to a private dock. VanCura said the Pearl River man was picked up by volunteers from the Piermont Fire Department who responded to the emergency call with the department's boat. The boater was taken back to Piermont, where his trip had originated.
