Police: Rockland Psychiatric Center Patient Charged With Killing Another Patient

52-year-old outpatient attacked another with metal object Monday evening, authorities said.

A fight between patients at Rockland Psychiatric Center (RPC) turned fatal Monday evening, leaving one man dead and another charged with murder in the second degree.

At about 5:30 p.m. yesterday, State Police responded to a fight in progress between two men at the sprawling RPC campus in Orangeburg.

"Two outpatients were involved in a dispute," explained Joseph Tripodo, a captain with State Police.

One of the patients, 52-year-old Curtis Wilson, struck the other in the face with a metal object, Tripodo said. The victim was transported to , and died shortly afterward.

Wilson has been charged with murder in the second degree, and was committed to Rockland County Jail without bail.

Tripodo said police are still investigating the incident.

Rockland Psychiatric Center is a 600-acre facility that "provides treatment, rehabilitation, and support to adults 18 and older with severe and complex mental illness," its website reads.
