Police: Hikers, Stay out of Harriman Backcountry During Homicide Search

Park police have also closed the Beaver Pond Campground indefinitely.

Hikers are warned away from the backcountry of Harriman State Park as police from several jurisdictions continue searching for Eugene Palmer, suspected of shooting his daughter-in-law.

Tammy Palmer, a Haverstraw mother of two, was found dead behind her home Monday.

Palmer, a retired park ranger, apparently abandoned his car and disappeared into the park afterward. CBSlocal.com reports police are using dogs to search the large recreation area, which is located in Rockland and Orange Counties.
