Golden Gloves Boxing Champ From Nyack Arrested In Fight On Main Street

Max Tassy charged with assaulting Orangetown police officer as cops try to break up large brawl downtown.

A 2011 Golden Gloves boxing champion from Nyack was arrested in an early-morning brawl on Main Street in Nyack today and he's accused of assualting a cop in the process, according to Orangetown police.

Max Tassy, who won the 201-pound Novice division championship in the famed boxing tournament, is accused of slapping away the hands and arms of a police officer as he was attempting to arrest Tassy, 22, of 702 Nyack Plaza. Police said the town officer sustained an injury to his right arm during a struggle with Tassy.

The police officer was taken to Nyack Hospital, where he was treated and later released. Tassy was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Tassy was arraigned and ordered held in the Rockland County Correctional Facility in New City on $20,000 bail pending a Nyack Village Court hearing.

Tassy was arrested after Orangetown police found a large group of people fighting on Main Street at about 3:12 a.m. Police said the incident with Tassy took place as town officers were attempting to break up the fighting and gain control of the situation.

Tassy won his 2011 Golden Gloves championship in Madison Square Garden. He is a former Nyack High School football player.
