{UPDATE} Fire At New City Florist On South Main Street

New City Fire Department along with Hillcrest and West Nyack quickly extinguish blaze.

UPDATE: The New City Fire Department was alerted to a fire at Floral Palace on South Main Street Thursday at 10:08 a.m. and put it out within about 15 minutes after arriving on the scene, according to New City Fire Department Chief Kenny Flynn.

“It was a pretty easy one,” he said. “We haven’t had an easy one like that in a while.”

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters, Flynn said. The New City Fire Department was assisted by the Hillcrest and West Nyack fire departments.
The fire went up and tore through part of the ceiling. The firefighters also knocked out many of the windows in the store.

“There were a lot of flowers in there, and a lot of plastic items,” Flynn said. “That caused some nasty, nasty smoke, so we had to knock out the windows to get some ventilation into the store to get rid of the smoke.”

While firefighters removed many of the damaged items from the store, not all flowers were destroyed. Some flowers were preserved in a cooler and were still even a bit cool after the fire had been put out. The fire inspector was on the scene Thursday afternoon to try and determine a cause. According to the Clarkstown Police Department, the preliminary investigation indicates the cause might have been electrical.

An early morning fire at Floral Palace in New City was quickly put out by New City Fire Department with assistant from the Hillcrest and West Nyack fire departments. New City Fire Chief Kenny Flynn said there were no injuires and the fire inspector was investigating to determine the cause. Chief Flynn said the blaze was put in about 15 minutes. Floral Palace is located at 246 South Main Street in the Clarkstown Plaza.

Thank you Mike and Anthony for sticking up for our volunteers. Being the mother of a volunteer firefighter, I know first hand what they do and it is hard work. Boo, thank them, and pray for them instead of putting them down.

What an ignorant comment Boo. Hopefully you will see this to be true as you obtain more life experiences.

Boo- Why don't you post your real name on your comments. It's easy to sit behind a monitor...pathetic!!

Stan - anonymous commentary is a hallowed right of the First Amendment. Now, that does not mean to imply the Boo is correct or wrong. The substance of his comment and the substantive responses, imply that maybe Boo needs to learn something about firefighting. Perhaps all he or she needs is an education, not personal insults. The problem we have is that many people lack civility and attack each other through written comments. The problem is not anonymity.
