Fights Lead to 2 Arrests in Nyack

One incident downtown, another at a Route 59 gas station.

Two men were arrested after two separate incidents of fights in Nyack early Sunday morning, according to Orangetown Police.

- Anthony Vero, 31, of Congers, was charged with disorderly conduct after a 1:30 a.m. incident at Main Street and Cedar Street in Nyack, police said.

- Steven Joseph Rinaldo of Highland Mills, NY, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after a 5:08 a.m. incident at the Mobil On The Run convenience store and gas station at the corner of Route 59 and Polhemus Street in Nyack. Police said town police officers investigating a fight at the gas station found Rinaldo to have drugs in his possession.

A third, unrelated incident was also reported in Nyack overnight Saturday into Sunday, in which a 31-year-old Suffern man was shot. The shooting took place about 3:30 a.m. on Artopee Way in downtwon Nyack.

The Suffern man was able to get to Nyack Hospital for treatment before police arrived at the scene of the shooting. The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation by Orangetown Police detectives.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
