FBI: Crime in Piermont, South Nyack/Grand View

Federal Bureau of Investigation releases local crime statistics; Piermont, South Nyack/Grand View studied

Although South Nyack/Grand View's population is just 1,000 more than Piermont's, the region saw more crime per capita than the pier village in 2010.

This is just one trend gleaned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which recently released its annual Crime in the United States report. The study analyzes crime—be it burglary, rape, murder or larceny—across the nation's villages, towns and cities. 

According to the report, South Nyack/Grand View—which has a population of 3,306—had more property crimes than any other infraction, with a total of 47. In the span of one year, the village also housed 40 larcenies, seven burglaries, one arson, one robbery and one aggravated assault.

South Nyack/Grand View did not have any reported murders, rapes or car thefts in 2010, according to the study.

Piermont, which is home to a population of 2,541, also had more property crimes than any other offense—a total of 26. Property crimes included and onto the old railroad station, a historical landmark.

Piermont also saw 24 larcenies, two burglaries and two cases of aggravated assault. The village had no reported murders, rapes or car thefts.

Nyack, Central Nyack, West Nyack and Upper Nyack were not reported on. Up north, in Spring Valley, the FBI noted four rape cases and one murder or non-negligent manslaughter.
