Dominican College Student Struck by Car

Police noted student suffered injuries, was taken to Nyack Hospital

A student at Dominican College in Orangeburg was struck by a car yesterday morning and transported to .

The man was crossing Western Highway at approximate 11 a.m. when the accident occurred. and Rockland Paramedics responded to the incident, and a portion of Western Highway was closed for a few hours while authorities investigated.

The student—who has not been named—suffered injuries but never lost consciousness, said Sergeant Ruggiero with the Orangetown Police Department. Ruggiero noted the student was held at Nyack Hospital overnight for observation, and was scheduled to be released today.

The driver is not facing any charges.

"At this point it appears to be pedestrian error," Ruggiero said. Ruggiero noted accidents on this portion of the road are not common.
