Clarkstown police have issued an update on their investigation into the death of resident Peggy Nadell:

The Clarkstown Police Department is still aggressively investigating the homicide of Peggy Nadell.  We are committed to finding the person or person(s) responsible for her death and bringing them to justice.

Although specific details about the investigation cannot be released, the Clarkstown Police Department would like to once again stress that we believe this to be an isolated incident and that there is no further danger to the community at this time.

Despite several distractions that have arisen during this investigation, the Clarkstown Police Department has and will continue to stay focused on the goal, not just arresting those responsible but having enough evidence for a successful outcome at trial.

Chief Michael Sullivan said “We are making progress in the investigation of Ms. Nadell and would like to reassure the public that we are doing everything possible, leaving no stone unturned, in conducting a complete and thorough investigation.  We continue to stay focused and conduct ourselves as well as this investigation with the utmost professionalism.”

It is starting to painfully sound like they have nothing.

No, actually, I think it sounds a lot like they are building the case so that it can't get thrown out. Everyone knows who did it. Just make the case airtight. I remember a few years ago that dude who attacked his ex at the Mahwah Sheraton...they knew he did it, but he didn't get arrested until 3 months later, and they threw the book and the kitchen sink at him. Gathered evidence all that time.

I'm a friend of the family so that sounds horrific to me and something I can't conceive of. But I have to be honest and admit I don't really know any of the facts so I'll be watching with intense interest.

Buster, seems you only comment on this particular article. What is your personal interest? And why are you so antagonistic to the police who are working to resolve it?
Buster February 24, 2014 at 01:39 PM
That's none of your business. In a democratic society where the people are presumed to have rights and be innocent before proven guilty, it is basically an assumption of our society that the police not be given unquestioned power. But, to answer your question, I would direct you to many of the innocent people freed by the "Innocence Project" over the last few decades. Some of whom did 17 years in jail innocent. I'm confident you could go to the record and find people exactly like you who condemned those persons without evidence, as you do, and with the same authority-obeying attitude. America boasts a system of individual rights but all too often the comments sections of media websites say otherwise. It's something Mrs Nadell fought for. You could at least give her that much respect.

Are you saying someone's rights are being violated?
Brian February 24, 2014 at 03:49 PM
Well put, Buster. BenRound, I don't think Buster was saying anyone's rights are being violated in this particular case, but that it has happened in the past where innocent people have been railroaded by an overzealous police force under intense pressure to make an arrest. Having said that, I would be shocked if the most obvious suspect or suspects aren't the perpetrators of this crime.
Slainte February 24, 2014 at 05:09 PM
Buster if the priority is to arrest and charge the correct suspect(s), then shouldnt the proper time be taken to assure that is exactly whats happening?? This sounds like it should play into your favor, not against it.

There is something called due process in the United States. Innocent until proven guilty is what our legal system is based on.

I am a friend of the family and u can and will say the family has cooperated fully, that how ever is not portrayed in the media. Everything that has been asked for the have gotten. I have watched my friend suffer and it's horrific how Peggy died and it's horrible that the family can not grieve for their loss with out every move being judged.INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN AMERICA

It is my hope that justice is served and the guilty party/party's are caught and that clarkstown has a rock solid case. Peggy was a tough lady who fought many battles on behalf of others in this county, she now deserves the same from her constitutes. It is taking awhile so the public is jumpy that perhaps a murderer is on the loose. Hopefully this case will be solved and peggy can rest in peace soon.

There should be a law preventing people from libelous speculation.

Does anyone know if Peggy Nadell's finances have been unfrozen yet? That would tell a lot. we would know if the case went cold.
