Briarcliff Manor Man, 53, Charged WIth DWI On Route 9W

Palisades woman, 19, charged with drunken driving on Route 59.

Kenneth P. Dengler, 53, of 90 Shadow Brook Lane, Briarcliff Manor, was charged with drunken driving Wednesday on Route 9W in Upper Grandview, according to Orangetown police.

Dengler was stopped by police at 10:40 p.m. after the 2000 Nissan Frontier he was driving nearly hit a stop sign as he was making a sharp left turn onto South Broadway. Police said Dengler failed field sobriety tests and was taken to police headquarters in Orangeburg, where he failed a chemical a breath test for alcohol, showing his blood alcohol content to be 0.165 — double the legal limit.

Dengler was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and given several traffic tickets. He was released on $200 bail pending a Feb. 7 hearing in Orangetown Town Court in Orangeburg.

In a separate incident, Elizabeth Mayer, 19, of Palisades, was charged with drunken driving after police stopped her for driving erratically on Route 59 in Suffern, according to the Rockland County Sheriff's Department.

Mayer was stopped about 3:17 a.m. Wendesday and found to be intoxicated, police said. Mayer was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and later released pending a Jan. 17 hearing in Suffern Village Court.
