Bookkeeper Accused of Stealing $56,000 from Tappan Business

D.A.: Money used to pay personal bills.

An Orange County woman who worked as a bookkeeper for a Tappan carpet business is charged with stealing more than $56,000 from the business over two years, according to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe.

Erica Sanford, 35, of 235 Park Terrace Road, Monroe, was charged with second-degree grand larceny after an investigation by Orangetown Police detectives and the Special Investigations Unit of the District Attorney's Office. Zugibe said Sanford worked for Tri-State Carpet Connections and made numerous electronic withdrawals and unauthorized transfers from the company's account to pay her personal MasterCard account.

Zugibe said the thefts, from June 2010 to September 2012, were discovered by the business owner, who then contacted Orangetown Police.

Sanford was arrested and arraigned in Orangetown Town Court in Orangeburg. She was released pending a Jan. 23, 2013, hearining.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
