Bomb Scare at Nyack Middle School a False Alarm

Authorities sweep school with dogs; nothing found, classes go on as planned

A threatening missive scribbled on the wall of a girls bathroom in brought out local police and bomb sniffing dogs Wednesday morning.

and the Rockland Sheriff's Department swept through the building at 6 a.m.—two hours before classes started—to seek out a possible explosive. The search did not turn up anything, and the school day proceeded as normal. Police did not release details on what the writing said, and are still investigating.

Nyack Middle School faculty alerted parents of the threat Tuesday. After the sweep, the school released a statement informing parents of the outcome.

"The plan decided upon yesterday after the threat was found was carried out smoothly this morning," the statement read.

The incident is similar to ; a student found the word "bomb" written on a wall inside the school. and the Rockland Sheriff's Department responded as students and staff waited outside on the football field in the rain. In this case, too, nothing was found.
