A house fire in Monsey late Thursday morning left one volunteer firefighter with second degree burns on his neck, authorities told Patch.
A home at 9 Cape Court caught fire around 11 a.m. Volunteer firefighters from Spring Valley, Monsey and Hillcrest departments scrambled to the scene to battle the flames.
"They were able to knock down the fire pretty quickly," said Raymond Florida, director of Rockland Paramedics, which dispatched EMTs to the scene.
The homeowners were able to flee the house uninjured, Florida said, but a 24-year-old firefighter suffered burns. He was treated at the scene and later transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern.
The house received partial damage, and no cause has been determined. The Rockland County Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) was at the scene, as well, Florida said.
