At approximately 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening, police received a 911 call reporting an abandoned motorcycle on the bridge's mid-span and a possible white male jumper. State Police in Tarrytown confirmed a motorcycle was found, but noted no body has been recovered.

Fireboats from Tarrytown, Irvington, Sleepy Hollow, Piermont and Nyack were sent out to search for the jumper along with Westchester County crews.  Tarrytown Ambulance and Fire Department volunteers as well as the police arrived at the dock by the Tarrytown Train Station in case someone was found.

The main area of focus for the serach was on the Rockland side of the bridge. Units used infrared cameras to look for the person.

Lakim Fair, a boater who works in Westchester, witnessed the emergency workers arrive at the scene as he was fishing by the dock that was later taped off.

“Things like this happen here all the time,” said Fair, who fishes from that spot regularly. “The alarm goes off and they’re here real quick.”

Fair stated that the first person arrived at the dock about a minute after the alarm was sounded and got the fire boat ready in less than 30 seconds. According to the witness, an emergency team ran through the Striped Bass restaurant and got onto a second boat that went out to search for the jumper.

The search was called off around 8:26 p.m.
