Almost 1 Year Ago, a Similar Gas Explosion in Downtown Nyack

Tuesday morning's gas explosion at Nyack College—which rocked a stone building on campus and left six employees and one student injured—occurred nearly one year after a similar incident in downtown Nyack, and just one mile away.

A gas main on North Broadway burst into flame on June 22, 2012, spewing a tower of fire into the air for hours as emergency authorities worked frantically to quell the blaze.

There were no major injuries in the 2012 incident, but a great deal of property was damaged—and a gaping hole was left in the pavement.
