$50K In Copper Wire Stolen From O&R Substation

A load of copper wire valued at $50,000 has been stolen from an Orange and Rockland Utilities substation in West Nyack, according to Clarkstown police.

The wire, about 2,592 linear feet of it, was stored at the substation at 195 Route 59 and was discovered missing on Wednesday. Police said an project engineer discovered the wire was missing when he went to the substation about 9 a.m..

The wire was last checked at the substation on Jan. 25.

The wire was described as Okonite 750 KCMIL insulated copper wire, 600 AMP Main Feeder. The wire was stored at the sub station until it was going to be used on a project at a later date.

Police ask that if anyone observed or has information about the theft of the wire call the Clarkstown Police Department Detective Bureau at 845-639-5840.
