A trio of New Jersey men are charged with stealing $500 worth of cardboard that was awaiting recycling at the back of a Central Nyack shopping center Tuesday night, according to Clarkstown police.
The reported theft is one of several recently at large stores, where stockpiles of earmarked for recycling can be worth thousands of dollars.
Police said a witness alerted them to the theft of five bundles of cardboard from behind the off Route 59 in Central Nyack at about 10:30 p.m. Three men were spotted with a white box truck, hauling off the cardboard.
The truck was spotted leaving the Hub Shopping Center and heading south on Route 303. A few minutes later, Orangetown police had stopped a truck matching the description of the one seen in Central Nyack. Orangeotwn police held the truck and its three occupants at Route 303 and Route 340 in Orangeburg for Clarkstown police.
The three men in the truck were each charged with petty larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. They are:
- Jose Vazquez, 44, of Bellville, NJ
- Samuel Alamo, 27, of Patterson, NJ
- Angel Torres, 26, of Patterson, NJ
All three were released pending an April 23 hearing in Clarkstown Town Court in New City.
