Your Thoughts: A Nyack Merchant Map?

What residents are saying about a village guide

Does Nyack need a merchant map—a guide that helps visitors track down the shops and local businesses they need most?

That's the buzz on Facebook, where residents are chatting about a potential brochure or kiosk to drum up pedestrian traffic.

Years ago, there was a terrific Nyack map that was created ... it was colorful, fun and interesting. I had one hanging on my wall at home (and in the office) for years. It was a labor of love for the artist ... and sparked talk about Nyack.

Gina Cambre from Casa del Sol and I (both Chamber Board members) have been shepherding the Chamber Map Project for the past two years. This project is a front burner project for the Board. We are working with local artists, our new website designers, an app designer and a map printer to come up with the coolest, most functional map possible. It is a marketing tool for Nyack, a parking map and a merchant map for tourists, residents and shoppers. It needs to satisfy a lot of stakeholders in-Village, be useful to visitors, and keep Nyack on the minds of everyone. And in the middle of all this, and perhaps more importantly, we need to fill the vacant stores with viable, longterm tenants.

WOFTAM. Nyack needs an information Kiosk at the mall. If you are a fisherman, don't you want to fish where the fish are biting?

Bill's right -- the old Nyack map was colorful, fun, and useful. A new one would be useful, improve the experience of visitors, and would help guide people to places they might otherwise not go to. An information kiosk at the Mall would be great -- it sure is where the fish is -- but the price might be prohibitive. P.S. When you get off the Thruway at exit 11 going south, there is a blue and white ? information sign. However, unless I missed something, I didn't see another ? sign anywhere else nor any arrows pointing to where one gets the information indicated by the ?.
