ST. THOMAS AQUINAS COLLEGE PRESIDENT MODERATES PLENARY SESSION IN KOREA-
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY & RISK MANAGEMENT AT GLOBAL CSR CONFERENCE

(SPARKILL, NY – November 22, 2013)– St. Thomas Aquinas College President, Dr. Margaret Fitzpatrick, S.C., recently moderated a plenary session on Corporate Social Responsibility and Risk Management Conference at the Global CSR Conference in Korea. Fitzpatrick was invited to participate by the United Nations Global Compact, a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.

The plenary session included Keith Darcy, Executive Director of the Ethics & Compliance Office Association (ECOA), and Michael Hershman, Co-founder of the Transparency International. Darcy is the Chair of the St. Thomas Aquinas College National Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility. The ECOA is a member-driven association exclusively for individuals responsible for their organization's ethics, compliance and business conduct programs. Transparency International is a global coalition against corruption.

"I was humbled and excited when I was invited to participate at the Global Corporate Social Responsibility Conference in Korea,” said Fitzpatrick. “The Conference topics were closely aligned with the efforts of St. Thomas Aquinas College’s National Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility. As educators, it is our responsibility to raise awareness, discuss issues and make strides for improvement in the areas of risk management and corporate responsibility. I was honored to take part in this event with influential global leaders.”

Fitzpatrick also presented at Kyung Hee University on “Sustainable Practices and American Colleges and Universities” during her trip to Korea. Sustainability and Climate Change is a key initiative of the National Center for Ethics at St. Thomas Aquinas College and, through her presentation, Fitzpatrick shared a global view on the topic as well as practical ways institutions can make a difference.

“My trip to Korea was enlightening and inspiring. I was blessed with the opportunity to discuss vital topics with corporate professionals, educators, and students. I will be able to take what I’ve learned and share it with the St. Thomas Aquinas College community. This will enhance our efforts as we focus on our development as global citizens,” Fitzpatrick added.
