Senior Girl Scout Supports People to People's Back to School efforts

Mary Elizabeth Hoffman, a Girl Scout Juliette (not affiliated with a troop) and part of the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson, Inc. council, presents a $500 donation to Diane Serratore, Executive Director, People to People.  The funds are "cookie credit" and candy/nut/magazine sale proceeds that Mary Elizabeth, a resident of Pearl River, has earned by selling the iconic Girl Scout cookies and other branded items to family and friends during her high school career.  Girls use these credits to organize and run their community service projects or to put towards other Girl Scout programs.  She chose to make this donation to People to People to help with the organization's yearly "Back to School with Dignity" program, purchasing school supplies for children in need in Rockland County.  States Mary Elizabeth, "I want this money to make a difference here in our neighborhoods and to help those kids who would otherwise have financial difficulty pulling together their basic supplies for back to school.  My parents have supported People to People for as long as I can remember, and I've helped with Project Joy gifts in the past.  Now I can help make a positive impact in the community I live in and I am really happy to continue the legacy of giving that my parents have taught me."  Mary Elizabeth plans to attend Drexel University in the fall and is grateful for all the leadership skills she has learned as a Girl Scout for the past 13 years.
