Let's Be Clear About Benghazi

Columnist takes President Obama to task for his comments in Tuesday's debate.

The President is fond of using the phrase “Let me be perfectly clear.” I have learned over the years that this is often a signal that he is about to be anything but perfectly clear.

I wasn’t originally going to address Tuesday night’s debate, but the President told a blatant falsehood when he said he referred to the attacks in Libya as terrorist attacks in his Rose Garden remarks the next day. He did not. He used the word “terror” in reference to the 9-11-2001 attacks. He and his administration blamed a stupid YouTube video for 14 days before finally acknowledging the attacks were a coordinated, preplanned terrorist attack.

Press Secretary Jay Carney 9/14 - “We don’t have and did not have concrete evidence To suggest that this was not in reaction to the film.”

U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice 9/16 - “A spontaneous – not a premeditated –response to what had transpired in Cairo.”

Jay Carney 9/19 - “We have no evidence of a preplanned or premeditated attack.”

President Obama 9/20 - “What we do know is that the natural protests that arose because of the outrage over the video were used as an excuse by extremists…”

President Obama, on The View, 9/24 - The attack “…wasn’t just a mob action…” but refused to call it a terrorist attack.

So, this time, let me be perfectly clear. The President and this administration have been dishonest and misleading about the preplanned, coordinated terrorist attacks against the American Consulate in Benghazi from the start and they continue to be today, including in the ridiculous round-robin blame game they are playing with Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice and others.

This country has only one Commander-in-Chief and that’s Barack Obama. I believe that in fact he did know our embassy had been targeted in the previous weeks, that there were serious security concerns on the ground in Benghazi and that our Ambassador there was in harm’s way. And if he didn’t, he should have.

It would be nice if we had a President with the courage to do the right thing and the integrity to acknowledge it when he doesn’t.

Oedipus, If News Flash sincerely gave a cr*p about any of the dead he would of expressed it better by saying that four dead Americans was not an optimal outcome in a bump in the road like Benghazi--and then go back to finding videos on YouTube---

Soundbites, hilltop. Did you even watch the interview? I did. Just like newsflash, you are exploiting dead Americans just to criticize the president and push your agenda. Disgusting.

It doesn't matter what News Flash or any of us in this forum think about the tragic deaths in Libya. What does matter is how the administration thinks about the deaths and the actions they have taken to safeguard diplomats and American citizens worldwide. It is becoming obvious that the administartion did not give a cr*p about the security of its diplomats in Libya and considers their deaths as "bumps in the road" on the way to reelection.

FTP, Soundbites of what was said at the time, by an individual who chose those words to describe the deaths and downplay the situation. Since when can Presidents not be crticized? Since when can individual not have an opinion and not be free to express it just because you or others don't agree with it? Now when that happens, then it can be called disgusting.
