Nyack Hospital Chaplain Wentroble Died Tuesday

David Wentroble, 60, passed away Tuesday evening at Bridgeport (CT) Hospital, where he had been since being critically injured in a gas station explosion in December.

A spokeswoman at Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut confirmed that Rev. David Wentroble, 60, passed away Tuesday night.

Wentroble, who was the Director of Pastoral Care at Nyack Hospital, had been in the Bridgeport Hospital Burn Unit since he was critically injured in an explosion at the Wheels Gas Station at 27 Tamarack Ave. in Danbury, CT Dec. 22. Wentroble lived in Danbury.

"In his position as Director of Pastoral Care, Reverend Wentroble was both a resource and a friend to countless patients and staff members.  His involvement in people of all faiths’ most wonderful and most difficult moments alike helped to double their pleasures and halve their sorrows, respectively.  He seemed to be omnipresent throughout Nyack Hospital and we will all continue to feel his presence yet miss him terribly.”

"It's with a heavy haeart that I share Rev. David Wentroble, Nyack Hospital Chaplain, died last night at Bridgeport Hospital," Dr. Fernando Arzola, Jr. Pastor of First Reformed Church of Nyac, wrote via email Wednesday morning. "A terrible loss of a gentle and compassionate man. I know you join me in keeping his family, friends and colleagues in our thoughts and prayers."

The investigation into the cause of the explosion has been inconclusive.

My deepest condolences to Reverend Wentroble's family. A kind, kind gentleman who visited me every time I was an inpatient in Nyack Hospital. R.I.P. Sir.
