Mmm, I'm Hungry: Eating Healthy in Nyack

Trying to eat healthy with such tempting menus in Nyack can be a challenge

Friday night the weather was beautiful. I always see people sitting outside at the restaurants in town and wanted to be one of them, so my husband and I went to Harry's Burritos and got an outside table.

The food is priced well, with many during the week. And it's tough to be on a diet when there are so many delicious choices on the menu—but Harry's Burritos has a lot of healthy options. They offer whole wheat tortillas, brown rice, and non-dairy sour cream options. Different vegetarian and vegan dishes are also available.

I really wanted a chimichanga; the thought of the crispy shell and juicy contents had my mouth watering, but I decided I must be strong. I had a marinated chicken enchilada topped with red sauce along with a side of rice and black beans. I forgot to substitute for the healthy options, but I mostly ate the inside of the enchilada. The dish was great, with more than I could eat on the plate. I was very satisfied!

And we finished two pitchers of sangria. (They were perfect: the fruit was marinated in the drink, not thrown in afterwards like some places.)

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
