Urgent Plea: Turkeys needed today by People to People

Urgent Call Goes Out for Turkeys to Help Rockland Families

People to People seeks donations today for Thanksgiving care packages

NANUET - Rockland People to People, the county's largest food pantry program, needs turkeys - fast.

The non-profit agency is in the process of supplying local families with turkeys so they will have them in time for their Thanksgiving diner. On Monday, People to People has more than 100 families that are scheduled to receive turkeys but the agency only has 61 in its walk-in freezer.

A supply of 350 turkeys is slated to be delivered on Tuesday, but late Saturday night People to People Executive Director Diane Serratore sent out an urgent call asking Rocklanders to help by buying turkeys and dropping them off at the agency's offices at 121 West Nyack Road today or early Monday.

People to People is seeking frozen turkeys of all sizes, and any brand is OK. Serratore said her organization serves families ranging from two to eight members. Serratore is hoping to get 50 turkeys today, Sunday.

The agency is also welcoming donations of other food items that can be used by needy families for their Thanksgiving diner.

Financial contributions can also made to People to People at its office, by mail or online at  www.peopletopeopleinc.org. People to People helps more than 14,000 Rockland County residents annually.

People to People is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in hopes of getting turkey and other food donations.
