Planning a Vintage Wedding...A Little Secret About My Past

There's something about vintage details that have always found a special place in my heart.  The combination of a beautiful glass or porcelain vase, a silver plate creamer or compote combined with fresh flowers that is one of my favorite looks.

What triggered my love for vintage styles?  As a child my dad and I spent many a weekend afternoon driving from thrift shop to salvation army and back home to clean, polish and display our "finds". He instilled in me the appreciation for old things and the quality that they have which you often don't find today. He also felt that old things had a soul, the patina or wear on an item told a story. I opened an antique shop with him years later in Nyack, NY.  It was a memorable part of my life path and I still enjoy hunting for vintage details for brides who share the love of vintage pieces.

One of my brides came to me with the design inspiration of an old master still life including lush fruits, compote shaped urns and beautiful flowers. This rendition was inspired by a vintage look from the still life.

The containers, as you'll see in the photos, are like little treasures, some have monograms engraved into the metal, some have a chip here or there, but their beauty and charm still remain. Not to mention that re-using or re-purposing a vintage container is recycling !! Another feel good reason to love vintage.
