Vernon Duke once said, " Autumn in New York, why does it seem so inviting?" When I think of Autumn, leaves changing colors and the weather starting to change is what comes to mind–and that those are just a few of the reasons Autumn is my favorite season.
The reality is that it's one of the last chances we have to get out of the house before big, bad Winter keeps us locked in the house. So, why not make the best of Autumn?
An Autumn traditon that my family has is apple picking. If you want a family activity or some alone time with someone special, apple picking is a fantastic way to do so. Locally, there are several places perfect for apple picking: Dr. Davies Farm in Congers and The Orchards Of Concklin in Pomona are options. If you decide to go for a drive to Orange County, you also have some lovely orchards—my personal favorite is Applewood Winery in Warwick. They do a fabolous job with everything from picking apples to getting your face painted to buying some awesome homemade apple cinder donuts. Other Orchards include Apple Ridge Orchards in Warwick and Soons Orchard in Warwick. Which ever you choose, you're sure to get some quality time with love ones.

September also marks the begginning of football season, andI'm hopeful that Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin can lead the Giants back to the Superbowl. The Giants, who are under criticism for not making a lot of moves in the off season and not resigning some veterans, hoped to silence their critics in their first game is against the Washington Redskins on Sept. 11 at 4:15 pm. The New York Jets were opposite of the Giants this off season and signed many players including Plaxico Burress and Santonio Holmes to their roster. Jet fans are optimistic that Mark Sanchez and Rex Ryan can pull together and win the title after back to back losses in the AFC Championship game.

Autumn is a great time, but who can talk about September without thinking about what happened nearly 10 years ago? Sept. 11 was a sinister attack on America. We will never forget the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. Let's not mourn their loss, but rather celebrate their lives. So whether your apple picking or watching the Giants win against the Redskins, take a minute and think about the men and women who died and continue to die for you to pick that apple or watch that amazing play!
