A Very New York Christmas

There is nothing better then New York during the holiday season.

If you think about it, we are some of the luckiest people in the world around Christmas time. We are about 45 minutes away from the greatest city in the world. New York City is home to many great things to do, like take in a show at Radio City Music Hall or just go and take pictures in front of the huge tree at Rockefeller Center.

At some point in life, you must experience NYC during the Holidays.

Now, since I'm in high school, there is one thing that seems very attractive about the holidays — the holiday break. Man, does the school district know how to stress a teenager out. The break (which is much needed) serves as sort of a "congrats you made it to Christmas" prize. Or, if you are an adult, it serves as a reminder of how yet another year has come and gone.

One of my favorite parts about the holiday is giving gifts to my friends and family. Since I have four main friends, buying four gifts seems a little out of reach for some unemployed teenagers. To make if fun for all of us, we do "Secret Santa." I happen to like the idea of giving one personalized gift to one friend rather than giving four different broader gifts. It's also a little bit more affordable. We also dedicate one night where we have a "girls night in" during the holidays. One friend holds a Christmas party at her house and this is where I get to see the smiles on everyone's faces when we open our presents.

Just to be around your loved ones makes the craziness worth it all. The holidays are a great time to remember what is really important: Family, friends and egg nog ;).
