New Mommy Communication

It’s so confusing in "Mommy world" these days.  The goals of parenthood may be the same but the way we communicate is not.  Social media and the internet have made it easier to communicate but now it seems more complicated to do simple things or maybe I’m more exhausted.

Nowadays when you are a stay-at-home mom and you want to connect with other moms it takes more steps.  There seems to be so much legwork involved in getting together with other moms or getting some help with your baby.

I am not one of those parents blessed with grandparents or another relative close by, so if I need to do anything as a single or a couple I must arrange paid help.  All of the babysitters speak via text only, so I must communicate this way even though I find it less than efficient.  At the end of the month I routinely get nailed on my cell phone account.

The texting also extends to other moms of a younger age group.  I have one Mommy friend I meet for play dates who refuses to talk on her cell phone, and I must text for any meet-up.  By the end of an exchange I can send 10 texts to arrange a library meeting or something that may or may not happen.

Speaking of Mommy meet-ups the pressure to go to every listed event can also be stressful in some ways.  I found a particular group where the organizer was so committed to creating endless play date meetings far into December that I was dropped for lack of participation.  Who can look that far in advance with a toddler?  Can we relax a little bit?
