Nyack to Fete African American Day with Parade

Just on the heels of , Nyack will host a downtown parade to celebrate African American Day.

The fourth annual event, slated for May 12, will begin at the old Nyack High School, march down Main Street and conclude in Memorial Park with music, crafts and eats from local merchants.

Hiking the route will be the East Ramapo Marching Band, the Nyack-Valley Cottage Youth Cadets, the Nyack Fire Department and other organizations.

At the parade's head will be two recognizable—and similar—faces: twins and Nyack natives Devin and Jason McCourty, both professional NFL athletes. Both attended Upper Nyack Elementary School; Devin plays for the New England Patriots, and Jason for the Tennessee Titans.

Also keep an eye out for the Buffalo Soldiers of West Point, The Spring Valley NAACP, The Rockland County Sheriff''s Mounted Police, The Rockland-Westchester Guardians Association and the Mount Vernon Classic Car Club.

New York R&B radio station WBLS will provide music after the parade.

Where: Starting point is the old Nyack High School at N. Midland Ave. and Fifth Ave. across the street from Nyack Hospital

Also: Parking will not be permitted on the parade route between noon and about 3 p.m. Parking will not be available in Memorial Park, either.
