The star of the Nyack Holiday Tree Lighting event Saturday at the Veterans Park Gazebo arrived nearl the end of the celebration and faced many obstacles getting to the stage.
Santa Claus arrived Highland Hose Company's antique truck bearing gifts and was quickly surrounded by children. He eventually made it to the gazebo to light the tree, then returned to the crowd.
The enthusiasm was natural, especially after the event was pushed back a day due to the forecast of inclement weather Friday night.
Saturday's event, sponsored by the Nyack Chamber of Commerce, featured musical performances by the Hudson Valley Youth Chorus and Jeffrey Friedberg (with Bossy Frog). Dave Blau read "The Night Before Christmas" and Nyack Mayor Jen Laird-White served as master of ceremonies.
